Grayscale: Bitcoin’s Quantum Threat Is Social, Not Technical

2 hours agoCoinTelegraph via AI

As the era of quantum computing approaches, concerns regarding Bitcoin’s long-term security are mounting. Yet, according to Grayscale’s head of research Zach Pandl, the impending threat is less about the code and more about the community. He argues that while technical solutions to quantum encryption likely exist, the true hurdle lies in coordinating a network-wide upgrade to implement them.

Pandl highlights that Bitcoin has a "history of contentious debates over protocol changes," making rapid consensus difficult. The challenge, therefore, is political rather than purely mathematical. Convincing the diverse ecosystem of developers and miners to agree on a defensive upgrade could prove far more complex than the cryptography itself, turning social governance into the critical line of defense.
